Biography

Mr. Colbeth focuses his practice on business and civil litigation, appellate law, employment law, media and public transparency law, probate and estate law, and on counseling individuals and businesses on a wide array of litigation and transactional matters. He has represented clients in all phases of litigation, including in both trial and appellate courts and at both the federal and state level. He is admitted to practice in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California, and in the state of California. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of California.

Experience

Prior to joining Cannata O’Toole & Olson, Mr. Colbeth was a litigation associate at an insurance defense firm, representing insurance companies and their insureds throughout the state of California. Mr. Colbeth also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Katherine G. Leonard of the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals and as a judicial extern to the Honorable Wendy G. Getty of the Solano County Superior Court. During his clerkship with the Court of Appeals, he researched and wrote extensively on a variety of civil and administrative matters, including those pertaining to business, labor and employment, and real estate disputes. He understands the importance of producing high quality legal writing.

Mr. Colbeth earned his law degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law. During law school, he served as a Senior Articles Editor of the UC Davis Law Review and as an editor of the UC Davis Business Law Journal. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston University, graduating magna cum laude from the Questrom School of Business.

Mr. Colbeth grew up in Los Altos, California and now resides with his wife and two children in the East Bay. His interests include cooking, piano, movies, outdoor activities, and traveling in the U.S. and abroad.
